Harrington, the inventor of the top-break revolver, and William A. Harrington & Richardson, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, was founded in 1871 by Gilbert H. The first line of text is stretched out to the same length as the second line of text. Approximately 1,500,000 Young America revolvers in cal.22 and cal.32 were made between 18. The second line reads: WORCESTER MASS U.S.A. The second line is PAT MAY 1.(4?) 1901Ībove the trigger is also two lines of text as follows: HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. Just above the removable hinge pin are two lines of heavily worn text. Also, the extractor seems to have a very hard spring to push down, is this indicative of auto-eject, or just really dirty. The buttplate would cover up a recessed hole with a single, large slotted screw inside. Scarce H&R 940 revolver with unique key-safety locking system designed to prevent accidents, implemented years ahead of its time, later copied to varying degree by other manufacturers. The buttplate is missing, but would have two wood screws. Harrington & Richardson, H&R, 940, Revolver, 22RF, AG41414, A-1721. The wood fore end piece is 6 3/4 inch at the longest point and has a single, slotted screw in the center. The serial number is 212XXX, two places, under the barrel on the left side, and behind the trigger (lower tang?). 12 gauge, 32 inch barrel, silver toned front sight post. The information on the breech side is severely worn. I recently came into possession of what appears to be an old H & R.If anyone could help, that would be much appreciated. I have not been able to sort out the exact year model of my gun. I've read several threads and thank you for the tremendous amount of history on the Harrington & Richardson single barrel shotguns. H&R did make a 6inch barrel 22 with oversized wood grips starting in 1925 callled the TARGET but i believe this revolver was made before that and is just a 22 rimfire Preimer second model 4th or 5th variation made about 1914/1915.
